    Symmons T-30 too short
Okay, here goes... I am in the process of installing a five-piece plastic surround over existing tile. Well, that's not true--I've already done the installing. The existing hardware is Symmons temptrol. Everything is ready to go back together, but I see that because of the thickness of the surround the T-30 diverter lever will no longer reach the assembly. It's about 1/4 inch too short. I've taken a look around and it doesn't seem like there are any replacement parts that are a bit longer. The escutcheon screws are similarly short, but I figured that I could find those easy enough. Any suggestions on how to deal with the diverter lever? I've thought about widening the hole in the new surround so the entire escutcheon can be slid within and eliminates that 1/4. I'd fit it tightly and caulk around it, but that would still seem invite water penetration. We are planning on remodeling the entire bathroom in a couple years and had hoped to create a solid solution that would last until then without getting into the walls. As usual, shortcuts are causing me headaches.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks for your time.

    Hi Lastresort...

If you are a 1/4" short then you are really about 3/4" short because the diverter needs to set deep into the spindle assembly to work.

Call your local plumbing supply store and ask them if they can order you the symmons diverter extension kit. This kit usually includes a coupling with allen set screws and the extension piece you need. If you are lucky, they may even have it in stock!

Be sure to double check that you won't need the stem assembly extension kit with screws as these are usually needed when the diverter handle needs to be extended!

Let me know how you make out... OK?

    Hi Mark,
Thanks for the quick reply. I can't figure out how to use the comments feature, so hopefully you'll see this. The diverter extension kit was just what I needed, and it was in stock. Thanks again for the help.
