Is sealing a record a bad thing?
My boyfriend says in the county where he got his felony, the record gets sealed after 10 years. He says it's very bad because that means he can never get his felony expunged.

Right now he can't get his felony expunged or ever because his is a terrorist threat felony and they added a strike, even though he never made the actual threat! At the time he had no lawyer or money. I am so sad because I can't help him. I wish there was something I could do.

? Sealed after 10 years? No where that I know of, you can ask for it to be sealed after a number of years.

And being sealed has nothing to do with explunging it, which is actually only a really different method of sealing it, since explunged records still show up to police, court employees and any national security search. A sealed record normally would not if actually sealed.

Well, if you'd like to know, it's in San bernardino County. Maybe I misunderstood. I don't know where to find the information on the courthouse website.

But from what I understand, my bfs felony will remain in public records for all to see, but all the information on his case will be deleted and gone. He cannot get it expunged because after that, no one will be able to have all the information on his case and the evidence is gone.
