How can a 16 year old be emancipated in Indiana?
My friend is trying to get emancipated because her mother is excessively controlling, mentally abusive, and unstable. We have researched how to get her emancipated. She has ways of a steady income, a place to live other than a friends house, and a real reason to be emancipated. This is not a case of some kid who wants to do as she pleases. Her mother is doing serious mental and emotional damage to her. This is a last resort option that she has been forced to take. We need help getting started so any information we could get we'd be grateful for.

Indiana doesn't allow for emancipation of a minor. So the next step is foster care.

And normally the place to live is a rented apartment, and they have to show income to pay for it and all other bills. Not living with "anyone"

Emancipation in the United States Fact Sheet at Juvenile Law Center

The courts in Indiana may allow for some release, to allow them to marry or get medcial treatment, she can get into counseling if she wants and parents would not allow it though court.

Normally the court will do some sort or parenting plan, or have supervision of care of the juv in the home

It is extreemly hard for a minor to be emancipated here in Indiana. It would be much better for cps to get involved and have her go to foster care until she is 18. She not only has to have a way to have the income but actually have it for a substantial amount of time. Also a place to live as mentioned renting an apartment with proof from the manager that she is renting it or will be able to rent it based on her income. She will also have to prove that she can finish school while working a job that pays enough to pay rent, utilities, food, and for her reliable transportation to and from work and school. In all likely hood she will be 18 by the time she can prove all of this and the emancipation issue will be mute. If she is being abused then she needs to talk to the school couselor. Her closest frineds can also get with the counselor and he/she can get ahold of the right people to get her out of that situation (if deemed bad enough).
