Is my cut down on calories a dangerous amount?
I have never been happy with the way my body is, and have never really had the willpower to do anything for a serious length of time. However recently I have pulled my act together and started a calorie counter food diary (on the internet). I first cut down my calories to 1500 a day, but I have decided to cut it down to 1000.
My boyfriend thinks this is too much of a cut in calorie intake, (but then again he also thought me wanting to loose a bit of weight and tone up was ridiculoius) so I'm not sure if he's talking sense or whether he is just trying to be nice? The last week I have been feeling a bit ill, and the last few days I keep getting dizzy spells.
Is 1000 calories a day too little? Also I don't get a chance to exercise much so I'm not burning too much off.

You are depriving your body of nutrients by cutting so many calories. Just what type of food did you cut back to? The fact that you are getting dizzy spells and feeling is ill, is not a good sign that you are doing the right thing for your body. Wouldn't you know that within yourself?

Exercise is just as important as eating healthy. You can be thin and still unhealthy. How many calories you should be taking in depends on your age and what sort of physical activities you do. Have you considered talking with a nutritionist? Cutting out chocolate shouldn't cut your diet down to 1000 calories. And losing weight too rapidly is unhealthy.

I have not just cut out chocolate it was just an example of the type of stuff I've cut out. I don't get much of a chance to exercise, I'm either in college or working, so it's quite hard to find time to fit in a decent workout. I do basic walking to work etc but its not much of a distance to really count.

5'5 I know my bmi is in the healthy range, but its at the top end nearing the overweight, and I used to be heavier when I started.

That's not all that heavy. Are you sure it's really close to overweight?
I'm 5'1 and even when I weighed 140, my dr wasn't too concerned. So if you're taller than me, then 140 certainly doesn't seem like it would be over weight.

I think for a female at 140lbs and 5'5 1000 calories is a tad low but it's not a SEVERE restriction. How about 1200? That's a bit more reasonable.
Are you seeing results on the 1000 calories? How are you feeling? If you are feeling run down constantly, then that's too low.

Really? Are you a nutritionist? Or do you have any sort of medical background? Because that seems way too low. And in her original post she complained that she is getting sick from it and having dizzy spells.

opheliacgirl23 disagrees : actually, the feeling sick and dizzy spells turned out to be from a contraceptive pill I was on so Ive changed that and its fine now :
Please read the TOS and rules. Totally inappropriate use of the rating system. Disagrees are only supposed to be given for factually incorrect advice. I asked a question. And then pointed out that you had been complaining of being sick and dizzy. Even if there was something else causing it, I was still only pointing out that you had stated your were feeling ill before.
