I want to join the Air Force, but I'm over weight, can I get the lap band?
As in, I've tried everything. I exercise regularly, I eat no fast food, and now eat less than I used to (smaller portions), and I still have lost only a few pounds...

I need to lose about 80 more pounds to enlist, and I'm getting nowhere...

Can I get the lap band, lose the weight, and enlist? Or am I just going to have to suffer through the last 80 pounds?

Thanks in advance for any insight...

You would have to discuss the lap band with your doctor and I think it is used in only extreme cases.

I think if you lost the last 80 lbs. through extreme discipline it would look good on your resume for the air force !

The various surgery for weight loss is normally only done in extreme cases. Also do you have the money to pay for it, since unless life threatening weight, normally insurance is not going to pay for it either.

Are you working with a gym and a fitness instructor, are you working with your doctor to loose weight.

Are you walking/ running, how much exercise do you do a day

Can the force of an elastic band be equated to a certain poundage of force? [ 2 Answers ]

This seems like a simple yes, but here is my confusion. A band snaps back faster than an object would free fall. So even if a stretched band was 20 pounds of force, it is pulling at a higher velocity than a twenty pound weight. For example if you do an arm curl with a 20 pounds weight, it...
