    Different glasses have different melting points. Pyrex, I believe is one of the lower ones. Pyrex, soda lime and quartz are typical glasses.

    I have done some glass work like sealing compounds under vacuum in quartz ampules where a Hydrogen/Oxygen torch had to be used due to purity issues. Having the flame too hot makes it difficult to work with other glasses like soda lime.
