Is it legal for me to have surviellance cameras outside my townhouse (Coop)
I live in a coop in ontarion, Canada. We had an issue with car break ins in my complex some two years ago. I bought a surviellance camera for my immediate area in front of my property. That's my yard and my parking space, beyond that is a brickwall. (the side of another unit with no windows). Recently I received a notice asking me to remove my camera as it violates others rights to privacy. What about my rights to protect my property and the security of myself and home? Do they have any right to have me remove my camera? They didn't quote any bylaw or rule of the coop. My camera does not view anyone inside theirs homes. Only cars and yards. The Cam was looped through a VCR so if I went out I could record and look back if I found their was a reason too. I rarely I ever recorded. The cam was up for nearly 2 years, and when I put it up I notified several neighbors and made it public knowledge. It gave the area a sense of security and deterence for anyone wanting to do ill.
Then a new neighbor moved in next door and made a complaint.

Please help me out. It was my understanding that Coops cannot make any rule or bylaw that infringes on my rights or laws of the land. Can you quote my actual law that I can take to the board to back up my point of view?

They can make rules that regulate anything that happens in public areas. Even colors you can paid things and so on.
But they have to do it though proper procedures, so ask them to show you the rules that require you to remove it.

Bidding on CoOp Apartments [ 2 Answers ]

When my wife and I purchased our home in 1971, the procedure was simple. We bid a price and, if the offer was accepted, we provided a cash binder. So we knew almost immediately whether we were under any obligation to purchase that property. If our binder wasn't accepted we knew we could then...
