how can i get a defendant appear in court for civil case
I sued long john in a small claims court for a replevin or return of my property,or its value plus damages. He was served the summons by the county sheriff and the summon was returned unserved for no contact. Long john still work at the address where the summon was served.I think he is hiding his identity. So how can I get him appear in court to answer for this civil case?

    Hello A:

In some jurisdictions, you can serve him by publication, and when he doesn't show up in court, you win a default judgment. Check with your clerk of court to see if you can do it.

Looks like the sheriff is not too interested in doing his job diligently.

Are private process servers available where you are?

It is possible, depending on your location, to get a person specially appointed to serve this.

    Hello again, A:

I'd take your proof back to the sheriff. They don't like to be hoodwinked either, and you already PAID them.
