Give him a break, he's only 8 weeks old ;)

I have a 5 month old who still insists that the hallway is his own personal toilet.

What is your routine for taking him out?

Puppies this young should be taken out every hour they are awake plus every time they wake up, have a meal or have a drink.

You might need to stay out there with him for 5 minutes or it might take half an hour.
The key to potty training is consistence and patience.

At 8 weeks the great outdoors is probably pretty scary. There's noises and smells he's never experienced before. Consider spending all afternoon outside with him, just to let him get used to it. If he goes, praise praise praise. If he doesn't, just let him see that the outdoors is an okay place.

Where was he from out of curiosity?

The term "Yorkiepoo" screams pet store or puppy mill which wouldn't help with potty training.

Puppy pads will only confuse him more. It's like saying to him, here pee in my house on anything you find laying around.

I have agree Shaz, screams BYB or worse.

8 weeks old your pup is JUST ready to leave the pack. For some dogs house breaking can take months for them to catch on, other dogs pick it up right away. And depending where he is from, you may have more housebreaking issues to come.
How old was he when you got him?

My two Poms are 4 months old and are just now peeing outside. They save the poo for my kitchen floor. Aren't I the lucky one?

I got the Potty Patch and they took to that real quick with pee, but the poo is still not 100%.

Patience and persistence. Those of us with puppies feel your pain.

Give this pup a break! You've only had for a short period. Puppies aren't born knowing how to be crate trained or house broken. Very few puppies hit the ground running during house training. 8 week old puppies are still very well taken care of by mom. Your pup just lost its family, is in a strange new environment around strange new creatures (you).

    Be patient!

    Stick to your routine!

    Always praise good potty breaks!

Try not to let puppy watch you clean up the mess!

Go outside with puppy. Introduce the go potty command by telling puppy go potty in a very relaxed, monotone voice until puppy goes. The praise! Be very cheerfull. Puppies love baby talk!

Don't rush things. Trust me, you'll miss the little pup in about 3 months when its doubled in size!
