Filing Californian State Tax return As J1 Visa Holder
    Hello,

In 2008 I flied a federal tax return as a J1 visa Holder and I was able to claim a tax refund under international tax treaties.
Now I received mail asking for my 2008 Californian State Tax return.
Is the a fedral tax return and a state tax return as a J1 visa holder comparable?
When filing the Californian State Tax return would I be entetled to similar exemptions?

    Thanks for the help.

What Mukat is saying is that California does not honor the tax treaty between the U.S. and your home country.

Hence, you must pay California income taxes just like your next-door neighbor who is a U.S. citizen.
