    Philips Whirlpool side-by-side not cold
It sounds like I have a very similar problem to the Samsung post below.

My Philips Whirlpoool (American-style) fridge freezer starting beeping at midnight on Saturday night and the alarm panel flashed - by the morning both compartments were warm.

Does anybody know if the solution suggested by Gtrax for the Samsung post (ie checking the evaporator and fan) will work for my unit, or will is it likely that those instructions will not work on a Philips?

I don't know if it helps, but it sounds like everything is working okay, the appliance is as loud as always.

It's really frustrating because I have an 18-month old daughter and I can't even keep fresh milk in the house for her!

Any advice is very much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Bella

    Is the compressor running?
If it isn't then we must determine why. Check the thermostat to make sure its closed and allowing voltage to pass through it.

Check the condenser fan (should be behind or under the fridge) it should run when ever the compressor runs. Im doubting that your condenser coil is dirty if the unit is only 18 months old, but if it does show signs of dust when you inspect the fan, then clean it anyway.

The evaporator may be froze over, and/or the evaporator fan may have stopped working, possible due to being froze over. In a brand new fridge, I would guess that if the evaporator is froze over given the young age of the machine, there could very well be a slow leak in the system and it may be undercharged. But unfortunately a repair man will need to diagnose that. Check fans and coils as nessesary if everything works then a repair man may need to be called. If the evaporator is froze over and its hard to get to, if you can find somewhere else to put your food, the easiest thing to defrost an evaporator is to unplug it and let it thaw overnight. Note that's the EASIEST, it will avoid dissassembling an already hard to dissasemble fridge to thaw it with warm water, and makes less of a mess. Thawing a frozen evaporator will buy you some time, but bear in mind, it will probobly just freeze over again, so its important to schedule an apointment with repair.

    Good luck.
