State taxes for MA and PA
I live in MA adjust started working in PA(apprx 7 weeks for the 2009 tax year)
Why am I paying over $2,000 to the state of PA with an income of $70,000. Does this sound correct?

    1. Any income earned while present in a state must be reported to the state. If you do not live in that state, file nonresident tax return.

    2. If you live in a state, report worldwide income during that period. If you are reporting income of another state, claim credit for taxes paid to the other state.

If you worked only 2 weeks in PA and earned $70K during those two weeks - then yes, it does sound reasonable. But if you earned $70K for the entire year, and perhaps only $10K or so while working in PA, then it is incorrect.

Please clarify - while working in PA do you still reside in MA? Is this a temporary job, or have you set up a residence in PA?
