    Drill baby drill
Remember when candidate Obama campaigned against off shore oil drilling ?

The Early Word: Drill, Obama, Drill - The Caucus Blog - NYTimes.com

And another one's gone ;another one bites the dust.....(Queen)

Under the President's new plan 167 million acres of the Atlantic coast, would be opened. So would 130 million acres in the Arctic Ocean, and additional areas in the Gulf of Mexico. The Pacific coast would remain closed to drilling.

During the campaign he claimed that drilling wouldn't make a difference because prices were relatively low. But ,as prices have increased in the last year I guess he is 2nd guessing his asumptions. True leadership would've recognized that drilling needed to be done regardless of the price of gas in 2008.But better late than never .

I can't wait to see all his environmental activist buddies marching on Washington to protest his decision. (don't hold your breath) .But let me be one of the 1st to applaud this decision as well as his openness for expanding nuclear energy .

This isn't the 1st time. I was also happy when he authorized the take down of the pirates and have been pleased over the drone attacks on the AQ scum.

I'll believe he is "right " when he orders a fast track for the drilling permits . Saying and doing are two different things.

When Exxon Mobil becomes Government Oil (as Maxine Waters threatened ).. as GM became Government Motors ,and the healthcare system is being incrementally nationalized will you then still think him a righty ?

My best guess is that this is a way for him to peel away some support for cap and tax.

I applaud this move as well (and no it's not the first time). I'll also give him Kudos for some of the bang-up work the CIA has been doing.

Exit question: Will we soon be required to buy a Government Motors car, financed by Citigroup, insured by AIG and powered with ExxonMobil fuel?

He seems to have done another positively right-wing thing today, test firing a nuke capable Trident missile from inside Saudi Arabia in a joint exercise. Hello, Tehran...

Maybe there really is another reason Obama has embraced this drilling, a step toward nationalizing the industry.

It's long past the time the TVA should've been privatized. The days when it could be rationalized as a depression era job creator or supplying energy to remote or depressed areas are long gone. What happens today is the TVA stifles competition and the American taxpayer is footing the tab .It is one of the most vivid examples that once socialism creeps into an institution you can't get rid of it.

The NY Slimes found the fly in the ointment . As I should've suspected... too good to be true.

But as a result of the Obama decision, the Interior Department will spend several years conducting geologic and environmental studies along the rest of the southern and central Atlantic Seaboard. If a tract is deemed suitable for development, it is listed for sale in a competitive bidding system. The next lease sales — if any are authorized by the Interior Department — would not be held before 2012.
Obama to Open Offshore Areas to Oil Drilling for First Time - NYTimes.com

What are the chances that an Interior Dept led by Ken Salazzar will find any location suitable ?

CEI got to the bottom of this, it's all just a part of his goal to see gas prices ‘necessarily skyrocket." Yep, looking forward to those $7 per gallon gas prices so I can't afford to get to my free preventive health screening.
