Want to install new fan and switch
I want to install a new fan and switch in family room. Want to grab power from middle of run 20 amp receptacle. It has 2, two # 12/2 romex cables coming in and out. I have already drilled hole for fan and ran one # 12/3 romex cable to new switch on wall ( single pole switch) I also after taking some drywall out, ran one #12/3 romex cable from outlet to new switch. The outlet is not split, but would like to if I could, so the plug for the TV would always be hot. Sorry for the long explanation. Thank you

Your post is a little confusing.

If all you want to do is install a ceiling fan/light, with the light being controlled by the switch and the fan being controlled by the pull chain, all you have to do is run 12/2 to either the switch or the ceiling box.

If you run 12/2 from the outlet to the switch, run 12/3 from the switch to the ceiling box. If you run 12/2 from the outlet to the ceiling box, run 12/2 from the switch to the ceiling box.

Sorry about that. I ran 12/2 from outlet to switch and 12/3 from switch to the ceiling box. How do I make the connections at the outlet and switch. Thank you in advance big time.

At the outlet connect all blacks together with wire nut and add pigtail. Connect all whites together with wire nut and add pigtail. Connect pigtails to outlet.

At the switch connect the white to white. Connect black to black and add a pigtail. Connect pigtail to switch. Connect red of 3-wire to switch.

At ceiling box connect white to white, connect black to black fan wire, connect red to blue light wire.
