    Antibiotics.
I have been suffering with intense sinus infections for the past 2 years now. My doctor has been prescribing me Avelox, Biaxin, and regular penicillin. As well as Nasonex and Osaris, with a saline spray.

We have been alternating between the three, although the penicillin doesn’t usually work. What I have been noticing with taking the Avelox is my hair has been falling out. My doctor doesn’t think that it is related. But only when I take the Avelox do I notice hair loss. Does anyone know anything about this anti biotic?

Also I have been sick constantly. Are these antibiotics effecting my immune system? If someone so much as sneezes by me, I get sick. What can I do to help my immune system? I try to take a multi vitamin every day, I try to eat healthy, and stay fit, but it’s hard when at least 2 weeks out of a month I am sick! Any suggestions?

I need to research your meds, but:

Has a nasal wash been suggested?: NeilMed Pharmaceuticals, Makers of Sinus Rinse, NasaFlo Netipot, Nasal Irrigation Available w/o prescription

Antibiotics are for short-term use. You create resistant bugs and the infections will get worse, not better. Long-term use isn't good for the body.

I think you should see one of these: What is an Otolaryngologist? I can't spell it. It's an eyes, ears, nose and throat doctor.

I did see an ENT specialist, he suggested a surgery, can't think of the name. But my family doctor doesn't think it is necessary. He thinks that once we "catch" it, I shouldn't have issues with it any more.

But the thing is, it is increasingly getting worse. My ears are hurting and popping all the time, my throat is always dry and sore. Also I notice that I have been getting congested more frequently needing to use puffers. Almost like my chest is tightening and feels bruised. Does that make sense?

I have another doctor's appointment on Tuesday, and another sinus infection started last night! I just finished a round of Biaxin. I have never tried a netty pot, as I use medicated nasal sprays (Nasonex and Osaris).

Oh, and I don't know of this is related, but when I was younger, I used to get tonsillitis and strep throat so bad I would end up being hospitalized and tubes being put in my throat. I also used to get chronic ear infections and I had to get tubes out in my ears when I was a kid. They fell out. I was 18 when they finally removed my tonsils. But I think they are growing back..?

It sounds like something is going on with your Eustachian tubes. Has anyone ever mentioned that?

The RDA is 400, but studies are showing that 4,000 is a much better and more useful amount. I've upped my "dosage" for about six months now, and have really noticed improvements in my immunity and skin tone and general health.

Oh, dear girl... your tonsils aren't growing back. That's like having a hysterectomy and growing a new uterus. It has been known, but only on very young children.

I wish I could help more, but I am not familiar with Avelox.

So I just found out that I will actually be going for a CT scan tmorow at 1. I've been getting really depressed with being so sick lately, as well as my hair falling out. I know it seems like something minor, a sinus infection, but honestly I am in so much pain, I am developing shiners under my eyes, and I am ready to dig my eye balls out with spoons, I think it would be a huge relief. Sorry for the grosse out.

I think you should go back to the ENT doctor. Your family doctor may be good, but it's just not his area of expertise. If the ENT thinks a surgery would help, then I would look into that more. Maybe get a second opinion from a different ENT.

If you haven't 'caught' it in the past two years, then I doubt it's going to happen. The antibiotics are obviously not helping. They're probably killing off good bacteria and creating super-bacteria, which is making you get sick so often.

I'm not familiar with any of those drugs, or sinus infections in general. My opinion, however, is that any infection that reoccurs for two years and isn't helped by medication, probably has an underlying cause.

I had my CT scan today, and my doctor wants to talk to me about the results tomorrow. Also there was message on my answering machine today when I got home from form the ENT specialist I saw a few months back. I have an appointment Tuesday morning.

So looks like I will be having the surgery this summer. Well that's what I am assuming seeing as that's what he suggested last time I saw him.

    I have to agree.

If your doctor wants to talk to you tomorrow, and the ENT doctor already called you, then it sounds like they're trying to get you in as soon as is convenient for everyone.

They ran a few tests and what not, they don't think they are cancerous, but they finally realized how much pain I was in. They took mme off the antip biotics for the time being.
