    Bottom dentures
I have lost all but 7 bottom teeth, have top denture that does not fit never has. I was told my gums are the wrong shape for dentures. But I trusted my dentist as to what was best for me and my health. Now I have a bad infected tooth on the right bottom the only one there am told all my teeth will have to go and a bottom denture is my only option. I have put this off and now the infection is bad... I am afraid that the bottom will not fit and then what. I paid a lot of money for the top then to be told oh you'll get use to it. Money is now an issue.. my mouth is in bad condition.. do you have some advise?
    Thanks

Firstly, deal with the infected tooth ASAP! The infection can affect your health, make you feel unwell, cause problems with sugar levels, and increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.

If there is a way to save ANY of your lower teeth do it! A lower denture is not easy to wear. It would be best if you could have a partial denture made that will be supported by any of the teeth you are able to save. See another dentist for a second opinion in regard to the need of having all your remaining teeth removed. You can take whatever current x-rays that were taken with you to save the cost of having them taken in another office.

I'd suggest you see a denturist. He/she specializes in making dentures only and often their fees are lower than a dentist will charge. A denturist cannot remove teeth or diagnose what is happening in your mouth at present.

If you are able to save any teeth it will be EXTREMELY important for you to follow any home care instructions you are given AND see a dental hygienist every 3 months to have them cleaned.
