Unmarried couple first time homebuyer tax credit
My daughter and finace are buying a house and wanting to get the $8,000 first time home owner credit. She will not qualify because I am taking her as a dependent. I was told that they could allocate the full $8,000 credit to her fiancé and being a "reasonable" method to allocate. Is this true?

If they are going to buy this house in 2010 (not 2009), and assuming that they are getting married in 2010, why not just wait to claim the credit on their joint 2010 return?

I do some pretty easy, straight forward tax returns for some of my friends. One of them recently bought a house and I told him it would be better to claim the first time homebuyer tax credit by amending his 2008 return instead of waiting to receive it when he files for 2009. This is pretty...
