I have an old debt on my credit report that should have fallen off last year.
I have an old debt on my credit report that should have fallen off my credit report last year. The creditor reported it again this year claiming that I brought the payments to current, which started the clock again. I have done as the credit agency's have advised me and reported them to the BBB & Federal trade commission but this has not helped in removing it from my report. Just as an FYI, This is a debt from when I was married & my now ex worked at the location & charged on my account, which he was not on. In fact the account was under my maiden name & opened prior to my marriage. I have contacted the company & they have told me they will continue to do this until it is paid. I do not have nor ever had the items he purchased & disputed them at the time but they told me that because I was legally married to him at the time I am still responsible. I'm not sure where I need to go from here. Any advice would be appreciated

    Hello ms:

Challenge the item with all three credit bureaus, and keep challenging it till the item comes off.. It might, or might not work. I'd give you 50/50. The BBB won't do it. The FTC won't do it. YOU have to do it.

That is what I'm currently doing is challenging it but so far no such luck. I did talk to an attorney & he told me I could go after them, however I don't have the funds. I just got some advice from another source that told me the attorney general might be able to help. Has anyone ever used them for something similar?
