    Babysitting.
    Hello,
Recently I put an ad up on a local website to babysit for people. I have gotten a TON of emails, but I know the internet is not the safest place. I was wondering what I could do to keep myself safe?

-I'm having a meeting with the parents BEFORE I babysit with them at a local "Playtime", It is public, and it's always very busy. I can't really bring my parents because some of the people want me to have my first "Job" babysitting there children there.(none of them specifically said I can't bring them though)

Sometimes me and my friend would babysit together. You have to split the money, so you won't make as much. But it's worth it if it makes you safer, and having two of you there will make it safer. Or maybe your parents could at least drop you off and meet the parents before they leave. I'm sure the parents would understand your parents wanting to know that you're safe. If they didn't, I don't know that I would be comfortable babysitting for that family.

I don't really like babysitting with other people around, it makes it seem like I'm not doing a very good job and that my attention is not fully on the kids, plus when I'm babysitting I can be just like a kid and get on the floor and play with them, which I'm less likely to do if a friend was there.

How old are you? Your safety is at stake here. Bringing a friend along for the first time or having your parents drop you off makes you that much safer.

    I am 15.
My parents don't drive so it would be hard for them to come meet them leave, and then for me to find a ride home. If my mom was to call them and talk to them on the phone, could that work? since I am meeting them in a public area...

If you and your parents are both comfortable with it. Make sure you're alert. And maybe invest in a bottle of pepper spray, if it's legal to carry in your company. I have one that goes on a key chain on my keys. There's some crazy people out there. It's just always better to be safe than sorry.

Emily, even the most savvy person can get hoodwinked by not nice people.

Although you may feel comfortable with meeting the parents in public,I would advice an adult go with you,and know your whereabouts when babysitting.

Your situation sounds very iffy to me,as a parent myself I don't think I would be happy with this situation, too many varibles that can put your safety at risk.

Although my post may seem over cautious, bad things happen all the time..

Be cautious, and aware and make sure another adult knows what your plans are.
