    Irregular Periods
I am seventeen and have always had irregular periods. Recently though, they've become more regular. However, the past two or three months have been off again. I try keeping a calender, but it seems impossible.. I'm always one or two or three weeks late. I've complained to my mom, but she's just asked me if I'm pregnant, which is completely impossible since I AM a virgin. What could be wrong with me? When I asked her to make me an appointment with the girly doctor, she got all awkward and didn't answer me. I also brought up the pill, and the fact that its supposed to help regulate. She blew me off with that too. I don't know what to do, or what's wrong with me. All I know is it is annoying as hell to not know when I'm going to get my period. Plus, if I end up becoming sexually active anytime soon, my anxiety will raise if my periods are irregular, and I really don't need anymore stress.

There are a lot of reasons your periods could be irregular.Your mom really needs to take you to a Dr.I have polycystic ovarian syndrome which causes irregular periods and infertility.Just look up info on irregular periods on the net print it out and show it to your mom maybe then she will understand that there could be a real problem..

I don't get what's up with your mother... she's dropping the ball, in my opinion.

As for your frustration about irregularity... concerning sex... its just always better, in my opinion, to plan on using reliable protection... tracking your cycle is always a great idea, but its not as reliable as other forms of BC, especially if your cycle is not as predictable.

My son was conceived using BC and fairly good tracking. Oops happens... but oops happens less with more reliable methods... BC doesn't just happen. Plan on it.

Keep tracking yourself... peoples lives changes in the winter. Perhaps less active (which can regulate hormones), winter blahs (again, hormones), illness (the H word again), and on and on... you might find as you get older that there is more of a reliable cycle.

Sorry you're stressed. Really sorry your mother is not talking to you openly. Think she assumes you are active already?

So she finally agreed to make an appointment, but says that she'll make it when she goes for her appointment in April. But this really upsets me because I'm having problems NOW. I don't want to wait another month or two to get this fixed

I don't know how far out the schedule goes at that medical practice... but if I were to wait to make an appointment for a fam member until I went for a visit... it can be another one to eight weeks before an open slot is available, depending on the practice...

**edited in** I misunderstood the April appointment... thought you meant that while she was there for her appointment she would talk to the staff about getting one set up for you in the future **

She is putting this off for a reason. Is money tight? Is she just avoiding getting you BC? Has she ever been open about your cycle and related health?

Is there a free clinic you can take yourself to? They can give you a basic check up and get you on the pill.

You can still go with your mother in April. It's likely that doctor will do more thorough tests than the clinic to find out if it's a hormonal imbalance or something else.
