    Job change
I am a police officer for a small city in the midwest for past 7 years. I have been very frustrated with the lack of opportunities for advancement with my current department. I have always wanted to work with a larger city, more specifically with NYPD. I have visited numerous times and enjoy the city and think that I would enjoy the challenge and opportunities available.

I am having a hard time deciding though. I purchased a home 5 years ago and am having a hard time deciding whether it is the right thing to sell my house, give up a good paying job that I am already settled in, and move to a new area to start all over! I am very unhappy with my current department and career opportunities, however, am content with my pay and current life situation. Other departments in my area are of same size or have reputation not to hire for years.

Anyone been in this situation that can offer any advice?

I too am from a small town. I could never, ever, move to a major city like NY. Think about what you are leaving. YOU might like it better, but make sure you know what you want before you jump in.

I changed careers in my mid thirties, from surveying to military aircraft production and inspection. I am much happier now, but I still live in the "country". God's country.

    I wish you luck.
