Does spouse automatically become beneficiary of 401K at marriage
Our son lives in WA (a Community Property State). He is in the process of terminating a marriage that lasted less than 6 months. The Beneficiary Designation on his 4041K eas never changed to name this wife. Does she have any right to any portion of his 401K? Is there any actions he should take to insure the beneficiary stays "as is"?

She may be entitled to 1/2 of 6 months worth of contributions. But that is about it.
