How can I help myself so that I don't add to my sons problems. He yells I yell louder he yells even louder etc. I'm trying to control the anger but I think I need meds. Too. We are in counseling and it helps but I have a short fuse when it comes to arguing, disrespect, yelling and hitting. I will not use physical discipline, mainly because it doesn't work and no sure way to know what is compulsive behavior or intentional behavior. I am making it worse when I can't control my temper and the yelling in the house must stop!! What meds could help me? Are their effective herbal supplements? Please help!

Hello, you could try some other things before going to medication. My brother has ADD and ADHD and some other behavior problems. When he starts having his little "fits"give him a warning,if that doesn't work send him to his room(or a corner), tell him EXACTLY why he is in there "Your behavior was unacceptable because you hit me, or because you used unacceptable language" that sort of thing. He should be in his room for as many minutes as he is old (If he is 11, 11 minutes in his room) if he leaves his room put him back in, and repeat this and repeat it over and over. Eventually he will understand that you mean business. Before he is allowed to leave the child should apologies.
I know with my brother the majority of his fits are because he cannot say what he feels, so after this ask if they would like to talk about why they did it, my brother ALWAYS opens up and says exactly what is on his mind, he used to have 10 fits a day, were probably down to maybe 1 a week.
