    What is the tan wire for on a weathertron thermostat
    Can you put a honeywell rth7500 thermostat in place of a trane thermostat for heat pumps

    Tan wire

    Outdoor anticipator reset

    Used on GE/Trane/American Standard and
    Some Carrier Products.

    It could also be for other uses.

I bought a house this summer with a G E Weathertron thermostat circa 1984. What is the difference between the AUX HEAT and the EMERG HEAT setting. I know it reads NORM on the AUX HEAT setting, but the previous owner said he always kept it on EMERG HEAT. :confused:
