Glenda - fyi, according to something I read on the internet, a 5mg monthly supply ranges from the following:

    Walgreen's: $182.50
    CVS Pharmacy: $226.99
    Kroger (supermarket) pharmacy: $163.95
    Publix (supermarket) pharmacy: $196.96

Perhaps you should contact a few hospitals or clinics in your area and see if any of them is doing a clinical trial for Byetta. You could volunteer and at least get one prescription for free. You may even find a doctor who may help you pay a portion of the cost out of pocket if you explain your situation. It may require that you contact several different doctors. Perhaps if you were to volunteer in the clinic a few hours a month, they may give you a free prescription in exchange for your time and work.

Sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures and you have to be creative and think outside of the box.

    Wow, that's expensive.

The other thing you ought to do is check and see if that is the only appropriate thing to use. Byetta isn't that old from what I can see. Sometimes doctors tend to jump on the latest thing out, whether it's actually better, or even if there is something else that would be working well for you... something possibly cheaper or something with a generic. Sometimes it's because they believe it's automatically "better," and sometimes because they have a push to use it.

I obviously have no idea -- just saying that you ought to talk to your doctor about it. The other thing you can check is if your doctor has samples - that might not cover all of it, but if you get some free samples it would help. Doctors get a lot of free samples of things. Years ago mine basically supplied me with a very needed medicine for quite some time when I couldn't afford it, until it was getting near going generic. (And then of course the company had no incentive to give the doctors free samples anymore.)

The byetta company has this patient assistance, they go by your income and how many people in the home. My dr. gave me free samples for a year before I found out about this program.

Byetta slows gastric emptying, thus reducing blood sugar spikes.

Not compatible with oily foods such as some fish.
