Changing monitors 2 for 1
Hi all and new here.
Laptop is Compaq Presario 2500
Have connected the Monitor cable from the main PC to the back of the laptop, hoping it will display the other main PC.
I am doing this in the hope of eliminating the cumbersome old "Tube Monitor" by substituting with the laptop's flat screen, therefore I hope to have 2 PC's and the display for both is on the laptop.
This will save much space and electricity, the large monitor is one of those LARGE 20 inch screens. ( I think it's 20 inch, but it's not the normal monitor. It can fry an egg !)
The cable is connected as I type, what do I need to do to make the other PC display on the Laptop's screen ?
Thanks, this would help much if solved

This isn't networking (but there is really no need to cross post).
The VGA jack on your laptop is for an external monitor, you can't share the laptop monitor with multiple PCs.
Even a KVM switch is not going to work since there is no input for the laptop monitor, only an output.

Hi Sevens,
Your laptop would have to possess some sort of "Video In" connecter I believe. Typically the only relevant connecter on a laptop is to link to an external monitor, to the best of my knowledge. I'm not sure how you would accomplish this, if it is possible.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Take care.

Thanks, I should have scrolled further, did not see reply.
Ok, Yes, the laptop will show up on an external monitor, that is why I thought it would be the other way round to.
But, on the back of the laptop, to the right of the Video Out plug, is a yellow round plug with 8 pinholes and a rectangle shape pin hole, with a engrave thing indicating;
S TV monitor shape with arial shape and arrow -->
Obviously this might mean something.
It seems then if this is the case, to go from Main PC Video Out to LapTop Yellow In, I may require a different adaptor for the cable if that what the yellow Pin Connector is for ?
Is that what the Yellow Pin on Laptop is for ?
Thanks again

That's an SVideo jack to output to a TV for playing DVDs or MPGs.
Again, its for output, not input. I don't know of any laptop that has a VGA In.

Ok, thanks question answered.
I think then it's a case of keeping the egg frying monitor or spending to upgrade hardware to flat top.
Do Flat Tops get that hot too ?
Thanks for the prompt replys.
