I owe 12k to CP if she closes case will she get food stamps, medical?
I Owe arrears to the CP and would like to settle with her, and have her close the case so I can get the Lien released the state of California has on me. She says if she settles with me and closes case she will no longer get food stamps and medical does any one one know if this is correct? She has a child from another man on disability but they are also divorced, does this effect anything regarding food stamps and medical?

No it does not. And quite frankly its not for you to worry about. The only reason she figures they are going to cancel it is because her income might be too high for a short period. If she is receiving aid are you sure you owe her and not the state?

Thanks califdadof3
Yes I'm sure I owe her and not the state, and the state will only tell me it's a possibility she would loose her food stamps and medical. The mother doesn't work so I'm sure income being to high isn't a problem. Any thoughts with extra information I have regarding trying to get case closed? Thanks for your help.

If your wanting to settle for a lessor amount and it is owed to her then she will have to agree to it. You might ask the state if any of the arrears are owed to the state because they have a new workout program whereby they can accept less and call it paid in full. Don't forget that the longer you wait the more you owe because Calif charges 10% interest. It's a huge scam. And your payment applies to interest first so that number can baloon into $100,000 overnight. So act fast if you can.

In NY you cannot "settle" for less - unless total support as ordered is paid the case can be reopened at any time for the full unpaid amount.
A new Order has to be obtained to replace the old Order - that's the only way to do it and, of course, it does not change past due amounts.

I have a small loan with a mortgage company- no liens on any property with this loan. The company owner might 'close shop', no go into foreclosure, just walk away. If this is the case, will I still be responsible for the outstanding balance on this loan?
