Windows not opening up on startup
After an incomplete uninstall of Returnil 2010,I recently had the problem of Windows suddenly closing down and failing to restart, and with your help ,by booting in SafeMode, the matter was resolved.
During the past week ,as an alternative to Returnil, I have been trying out SafeSpace which I decided to uninstall with the intention of reverting to Returnil 2008.
However during the uninstall of SafeSpace a message appeared making reference to the incomplete uninstall of Returnil 2010, with a prompt to correct this. But at the end of the uninstall process the computer closed down and on each restart, after the PackardBell screen,Windows screen appears and fails to open up
I have gone into SafeMode >Recovery Console>Windows and it asks for my Administrator password.
I am not aware of having an administrator password so I think it must have been set by PackardBell and is ' blank '.
I do not know what the next step is and would appreciate some guidance.

Would suggest to do a system restore back to an earlier time/date and then install Returnil again over what you already have there and it may ask you to repair/remove/uninstall or it may install again - you can try the repair but I would suggest to have it install again so that all the of files are put back where they originally were or should be and then after installing again, then use add remove to uninstall and hopefully it will uninstall fully.
So in safe mode, do a system restore back to before problem and then in normal mode, reinstall Returnil and then uninstall after a restart

Thank you for your help seahwk83.
From what I have read previously,in my efforts to find a solution to the returnil problem, I think you are right about installing it again over what remains. The problem ,so far, is that it goes through the motions of installing then states that there is an error and rolls back the install and I get the message 'Returnil Core System Not Available'.
However as I am not too knowledgeable in these matters can you please initially explain step by step how I do a system restore in safe mode?

Sure, hope this help
Safe mode first
Start, settings, programs, accessories, system tools, system restore
Then choose choose another restore point and on next screen choose a date/time that goes back to time when there was no problem as far as any situation was there and your app seemed to work or right before you attempted to uninstall.
After it restores and then you attempt to reinstall, hopefully you will be able to have the uninstall work fullly not leaving anything behind and then you would be able to go from there

When I take the first option ' Safe Mode ', I then get the choice of
MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION
Or
RECOVERY CONSOLE WINDOWS XP
As already explained; when I choose 'Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 'a list flashes down the black screen and it fails.
The computer then recommences the cycle of continuously going through the attempt to start up.

See if this will help you get to system restore without having to go into windows
Start the System Restore tool at a command prompt
How to start the System Restore tool by using the safe mode option with the Command prompt in Windows XP
If that does not work, would suggest a repair installation and after the repair, go to MS update and get all updates again and then try to install the app again as above and then try the uninstall after reinstalled.
Repair Installation
A Repair Install will replace the system files with the files on the XP CD used for the Repair Install. It will leave your applications and settings intact, but Windows updates will need to be reapplied.
Perform a Repair Installation

I am really grateful for your assistance. My Desktop is now fuctioning once more.
Was unable to start the System Restore tool with Command Prompt. Also unable to perform Repair Installation using the Microsoft instructions.
However using my PackardBell instructions and CD I have restored Windows.
Have now started to reinstall my lost programmes and have successfully installed Returnil 2010.
