1944 D penny looks like steel but doesn't stick to magnet
I have my grandfathers old collection of coins. I found an extremely shiny silver 1944 d penny but does not stick to magnet.(LOOKS LIKE SILVER) it feels definitely lighter than the copper coins and has no signs of copper coming through. When he was collecting most likely in 50'2 or 60's how likely is it that he saved a fake??

Heres'a an article you might find interesting:

1943 steel cent - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Apparently in 1944 the pennies were made from an alloy of brass - not steel. Only the 1943 pennies were made from steel with zinc plating (hence were very shiny, until they rusted through).
