Should Labeling Be Required on GM Foods? OPINIONS
Okay, I'm curious to see the personal opinions of the great people here at AMHD. As many of you know, I write. I'm writing an article on GM foods (genetically engineered foods).

I want your personal opinions- should labeling be required? (such as a can of pizza sauce containing genetically engineered tomatoes list "genetically altered/engineered/modified/etc. tomatoes" in the ingredients)

Please support your answer, whether it be from an economic standpoint or a food consumption based point of view.

    Thank you!

There is a site that gives all the food companies that have GM products in the foods they manufacture.

There is no way that Monsanto is going to allow or permit or require that the GM labeled foods be labeled on the end consumer labels or cans or bottles.

It is up to you, the consumer to ferret out if a product in question has GM products in it and then avoid buying it. The US government is not going to require this type of labeling - Monsanto has too much money to fight any such labeling to make it mandatory.

Now they have renamed aspartame as "amino sweet". And you think they'll require labeling GM foods?? No.

Scientists are finding that GM foods affect the humans that eat them. That may be one of the reasons for the increasing obesity in the U.S. Now when I grocery shop, I'm confronted with huge, thick-skinned lemons that may, if I'm lucky, taste like a lemon and just might produce several drops of juice, or huge red strawberries that are wooden and slice like pound cake. But boy, because of genetic engineering they are huge and appealing-looking sitting there in the produce section! (How I miss those smaller fruits that were small, soft, and dripped with juice -- but those don't ship well.)

I don't think labeling is even necessary; "by their fruits ye shall know them." Let the buyer beware, like Tink said.
