Trying to become a law enforcement officer, will the past affect it?
Hello, my friend wants to become a law enforcement officer. He has been speaking to me about it, and is worried, because he has smoked weed, and shoplifted in the past. He only smoked three times, and shoplifted twice, but just key chains. He is worried that those things will affect his chances of getting hired by an agency, or get him in trouble. He has never been in trouble with the law in any way. Never been arrested, has a clean record. I'm asking for advice on here to try and help him in any way I can. Thanks.

As long as they don't catch it during the polygraph, there is no issue, the smoking pot any at all if they find out, will stop you from working at a lot of departments, in some as long as it has not been in last 10 years or so, it may not matter
