How to check house water pressure to see if too high
I want to learn how to check the water pressure in my house to see if it is too high. The water 'spurts' when initially turned on, as if overly pressurized, then flows normally. This seems to be a relatively new phenomenon, as we have lived in our house for 7+ years, and only recently has this been an issue.

City water, right? You can ask yuour water department to test your pressure or just buy a small gauge that can be attached to your outside garden spigot. If the pressure is well over 50 psi you can install a pressure reducing valve (PRV) right after the shut off.

Residential systems are designed to function best under a pressure of 40 - 60 psi. If the water pressure entering your home exceeds this level, you should install a pressure regulator in the line to reduce the pressure to an acceptable range.

As Bob says to test the water pressure you will need a gauge see the image below. Thanks.
