    Heat pumps cold weather forming ice on the outside
    My heat pump foms a thick layer of soft ice on the outside of it in cold wet weather. Is this normal?

    Yes as long as it eventually defrosts around the coil area. The heat pump will go into defrost as programed by the defrost control circuit board.
