    brominating lycopene
how many moles of molecular bromine does it take to brominate all double bonds in TWO moles of lycopene? Show work.

I thought that it had something to do with 1 mole of Br2 being able to break 1 c=c bond. But I am not sure if that is right. I then thought maybe, since lycopene has 11 double bonds, the answer might be 11 moles of Br for one mole of lycopene... so would the answer be 22 moles of Br2 to completely brominate lycopene?

Indeed, you are right at first.

You need 1 mol of Br2 for 1 double bond.

You can have 11 moles of Br2 or 22 moles of Br atoms.
