I live in CT. My ex is bringing me to court to stop child support.
    Hi,
I live in CT. My ex is bringing me to court, to stop paying child support. My son is in a residential home through the state of CT. My son will be coming home on weekends within 4 weeks an will have day passes with his brother and myself. I will still need to provide my son with shelter, food, and clothes when he has day passes and overnight visits. When he is at resiential, I will still need to buy clothes for him.
Also, is there a specific law that states my ex has to continue or not to continue paying child support when my son is in residential? And where would I find that law in writing?
Thank you very much for your help in advance.

I have to say I'm not entirely sure what residential is. At least not in the way you are using it. In situations that I know of where the government is footing the bill or someone else like foster care (which again I'm not sure it is similar to either) support continues but it goes to whatever place is caring for the child. I.E. if it was foster care then the foster parents would get the support payments. If it was some sort of juvinile home (especially if privately run) they are entitled to some form of payment as well.

You both should be paying support to the state if the state is footing the bill. Is he being incarcerated ?

Calif is right. Places like that usually require support from both parents. If they don't have uniforms or whatever then your portion could be the clothing and things like that. But beyond that they are providing the food and shelter so they would be the ones entitled to payments. One of my old neighbors had to go to one of those and his mom (his dad died prior to him being sent there) had to pay. Granted this is a different state but things like that they are usually pretty alike on.
