Is standing water 6 inches down shower stall drain normal?
I have discovered a leak in the kitchen ceiling which is below the upstairs bathroom shower stall. I removed the drain cover and with a flashlight saw water with sediment in it about 4-6 inches down the pipe. No drainage problems in the shower. Is this normal and could there be a connection to the leak in the kitchen? Thank you.

Sounds like your see the water in the trap, which would be normal, it keeps sewer gas out. Probably not connected to water leak. You need to find out if the leak is from the drain or from the water supply. You probably will have to remove some ceiling or wall to determine this. Good luck

Also the leak could be from the caulking around shower stall or door
