What is the oldest anyone has ever heard of for a surrogate? I have 4 other healthy children, the youngest is 17 and was a home birth, completely natural birth with no pain medication whatsoever, no complications; not even any tearing. My sister is the one who brought the subject up to me one day, because of how easy of a time I have when pregnant. Nothing has changed in regard to my health (it's perfect - I don't even take aspirin) since last giving birth (I don't even get morning sickness), except my age. I still have regular periods. Is it totally unheard of?

Have you discussed this with your dr yet? That's where I would start.

Since births for mothers over 50 is often considered high risk, you need to discuss this with your doctor.

When doing a Google search I came up with two. One woman was 61 and the other was 56. The 61 year old woman was a Japanese woman.

I think it's an admirable thing you would like to do. I wish I could do it as well.

Unfortunately, it's possible, but highly unlikely due to certain health issues involved with being over 45 and pregnant.

What part of you saying you are 50 is hard for us to understand, if you are 50, then by time you give birth you will be over 50??

And just being that old adds a lot of risk, The parents wanting the child may be concerned over your age also and for the safety of the child.

Your health may be great, but age alone is still an issue.

Sorry but I have to agree with Fr chuck here. Age does make a difference. You may feel fit and youthful but a woman's eggs deteriorate significantly with age.

One example, the risks of having a down's syndrome baby is 1/910 at age 30 but rises to 1/28 at age 45. That is a factual medical statistic not an opinion.

Your desire to do this may be admirable but you need to be prepared to look at all the facts.

No it's not unheard of. Yes it is rare. There are good reasons it is not common. While general health can stay good throughout life, fertility and pregnancy risks, both to yourself and the child, are a different matter.

I am 47 and had my children at home, naturally , healthy etc but I would think really hard before I would consider having another child now for myself or anyone else. So I'm not being ageist, or sexist, or ignoring your past history of childbirth. I am being realistic though.

Age does play a huge part in this, some may think even if you are in good health that you age makes more risk then the more common ages for surrogacy. And as stated before being 50 make any pregnancy you have a high risk and most people aren't willing to take that chance. You might be able to be an egg donor I would try to find more information about the requirements for surrogacy
