    Connecting roku/tv/hometheater system
I have a roku player, a toshiba 37rv52r flat screen and an older sony home theater system (dav-c450).
So far I have been unable to figure out how to get the Roku player play its sound through the sony system (ran standard a/v cables from roku to sony): no surround sound/ no video signal. I am planning ( don't have it yet) to connect the Roku via hdmi to the TV.

Some guidance on how to properly wire in order to get the surround system/tv and roku properly connected would be greatly appreciated!

With it connected like this, make sure your TV is on the correct input and same thing with the surround. So for example, if the Roku is connected to the TV on HDMI 1 and Audio 2 on the sound system, then you will need the units on those inputs. Audio should be the only thing going to the sound system.

With what you have here is the best methods of connecting everything (this assumes you don't have antenna, cable, nor satellite).

    - Roku to Toshiba TV through HDMI.
    - Sony Surround to Toshiba TV through component (red, green, blue for video).
    - Roku to Sony Surround through digital fiber optic (square shaped peg with a kind of tube sticking out the end).

Note: You can use any RCA cables for everything except the HDMI and fiber optic. For the component video (red, green, blue) make sure that each of the RCA cables are the same quality. If you use a better quality RCA cable for one of them, the picture will not be as good (can tint the color or distort it).

The problem was that I did not have the video component go directly from Roku to TV ( had it in soundsystem): it now works:)
