    Hi, palteacher!

Yes, you can. But, what are you thinking of coating them with after they're decorated? Also, is the surface area on the shakers perfectly smooth, or are they textured in some way?

    Thanks!

I would like to know how to do that, just out of curiosity. I can't imagine it staying on for long.

DecoArt has glass and plastic paint its called gloss. You can paint on either of them. You may have to scuff up the surface a little but then paint. When done spray with a matte or gloss sealer. You can check out
    DecoArt on line.
