    How do I find the direction with given magnitude in degrees?
    In each of these, the x- and y-components of a vector are given. Find the magnitude and direction of the vector.

    (d) Dx = +3.0 m/s2, Dy = +7.2 cm/s2

    Magnitude= m/s^2
    Direction = ° counterclockwise from the positive x-axis

    The process goes like this:

    1. Convert the two vectors into common units - one is given in cm/s^2 and the other in m/s^2, so decide which units you want to work in, and convert the other.

    2. The two vectors are at right angles, so to find the magnitude of the resultant vector you can use pythagorsuus: .

    3. The direction of the resultant is found using the formula . This will give you the angle relative to the x axis. It's always a good idea to draw the vectors out to make sure that the angle you calculate is in the correct quadrant.

    Hope this helps. Post back and let us know what you get for an answer.
