Why does heat pump cycle continuosly
Our heat pump seems to cycle continuously... it runs for abouot 15-20 min shuts off for 5 min then kicks back on.. it seems to do this on "emergency" heat mode... when outside temp is 28 or below
We normally keep thermostat at 68... for heating have adjusted it both ways by 1-2 degrees.. does the same thing need an answer asap... it is a trane 3 ton unit and is plenty big for the house

    Thanks

The run times you give sound normal. A heat pump is designed to keep a constant temp, and will cycle around 4 times a hour. Average temp of a heat pump is 98 degrees (body temp) it feels cool but it is heating. If its keeping the temp you have it set on its working right.
