    How much life insurance do you need/want? YOu will have to pay a very high premium if you have any kind of health problems.

    You could contact an independent life insurance agent and have him shop the insurance companies for you and get you a good quote from at least one company.

    Some companies offer a "Final Expense" option. This is normally a very small whole life policy that is designed just to cover burial expenses. As Twinkie said, be prepared to pay a higher premium based on the age.

    At 83 it is going to be costly no matter what, There will be a few options, some final expense policies that often pay 1000 to maybe 5000 dollars. Often you may also find some though memberships in some groups

    Also there are "limited benifit" policies that don't pay any benefit for about 3 years if you die, but will pay after that period.
