    Dryer wiring
    What gauge wire is used for a dryer hookup.this question is specific for virginia if it applies>thanks

    Depends on how many amps the dyer is going to draw.
    In both houses I have lived in, the dryer was fed by a 30 AMP breaker with 10 gauge wire. Didn't seem to trip anything. However Im not sure if there is an actuall code, if you want to be sure, post this message in the Electrical and Lighting board, tkrussel is very good on answers like this.

    Andrew is correct that most dryers are 30 amp, thou I have seen the rare high end dryer that needed a 40 amp.

    To be sure, find the volt amps listed on the nameplate, multiply x 1.25, and round up to the next standard rating of breaker, outlet and wire size.
