    1mth old with fleas
I'm thinking about getting a Chihuahua puppy 1mth old.. I noticed it had fleas. I have wall to wall carpeting and another dog at home. I don't want to bring any fleas home. If I take it straight to the vet can the vet get rid of them before I bring it home?

Bottom line is you can't bring home a 4 week old puppy.
In most states it is illegal to sell a puppy under 8 weeks of age.
Some states allow 6 weeks but no good breeder will let a pup go that early.

Where is this puppy you are thinking of buying?

If it still has fleas when you get it at 8 weeks then we can discuss methods to remove them.

Please don't take home a puppy at 4 weeks old... its not ready to leave the litter yet... there is so much more socializing that it needs to do within the litter. Puppies that leave the litter at such a young age, I find, have security issues... and yes it is illegal to sell puppies are 4 weeks... my state has a law that puppies have to be sold at 8 weeks. Of coarse people manage to get by with it anyway.

As for flea treatment.. please see a vet. Any type of treatment bought from a store may not have the correct dosage.. . you are putting a poison on the dogs body... too much can be fatal.

Please reconsider from buying a puppy from this person who is selling their puppies at 4 weeks. There so many other better options in buying puppies.

    Good luck!

Absolutely, 4 weeks ols is way too young. You can end up with aggression issues, socialization issues, and health issues. If pup has fleas, then mom has them, and this could end up even worse for the puppy. You should suggest the owner of the mama be treated for feas AND worms.
Flea control is especially important once the puppies are born.
There is specific flea and worm treatment for pups who are under 8 weeks, but though owners should consult with vet before administiring. In my opinion I would steer clear of store bought treatments. You can bathe with warm water and wash with dawn soap, this is safe for mom and pups, but they would need to be extra careful pups do not get a chill. I wouldn't normall bath a pup until they were at least 8 weeks, but if a flea infestation is at hand, they need to take care of it ASAP.
