CA Laws regarding roommates not on the lease.
I live in Northern CA and share a 2 bedroom with my now x-boyfriend. I was never on the lease. While I am looking for a place to live I am not financially able to move out asap. Can he force me out of here due to CA laws? I want to have at least 3 months to save money. How, if at all, am I protected? I have lived here for 14 months.

Not going to happen, you are a tenant who pays no rent, still a tenant. He can start eviction proceeding and lawfully force you out in about a month. What has he told you?

Again, thank you for your first response. I do pay rent to John, he has the lease in his name. At first we came to a verbal agreement, I should be out by April 1st but I need some protection. Can he just kick me out whenever he wants to?

Not much changed with the new info. You are technically his tenant on a month to month lease. He must give you 30 days notice to vacate, ending your verbal lease. If you don't leave after 30 days he can then start eviction which would take another 30 days, so you have at least 60 uncomfortable days of protection
