    Can an f-1 in process of residence claim dependents on income tax?
    I posted this new question which is more specifil; I'm form mexico I'm married to us citicen , I filed the documents to star my residenci process, is it OK if on my Income Tax I claim credit for one dependent? Or it will make dificult since I'm getting this credit, thank you I hope you help me.

    If you file jointly with your wife, neither you nor she are dependents; you are co-filers!

    If you do not have a SSN, you will need to submit Form W-7 to apply for an ITINs for yourself. A notarized photocopy of your passport needs to be stapled to the W-7.

    If you have children, you can claim them as dependents. If they were born in the U.S. they will have a SSN. If not, you will need to get them ITINs using the procedure noted above. Since you are from Mexico, the child(ren) have no residency requirement, i.e. they can be located in Mexico and still be claimed on your return.
