Smelling Natural Gas? Are there good alarms out there?
About 5 days ago I started smelling gas (NG) in my home at different times. A few days later it became clear that it was not just the smell from using the stove or fireplace. I thought it may have been the furnace since it seemed I wold smelled it most is when it was on. I called the gas company and they sent someone out in 30min. After looking around with his meter he could detect traces but could not pinpoint the leak. He did a test after shutting all the appliances and pilot lights off and said there was a leak so he had to shut me down until I could get it fixed. Next day had a plumber out here and he turned on the gas line and probed around and could not detect anything with his meter. I was guessing it was because the gas had been turned off all night - but if there was a leak maybe it should have been detected right away. Anyway - two days and a couple hundred dollars later (to have someone not do anything because the can't find a leak) I woke up smelling it again in the house. Are there gas meters to buy to detect Natural Gas that actually work correctly? Should I call another plumbing company to hear they can't find or even detect gas and pay more money? However the gas company said I had a leak somewhere and I did/do smell it at times. Does anyone know if NG rises or falls or would you pretty much smell it everywhere? I have two stories plus a basement. Mainly I smelt it on the main level and then basement (furnace for main is in basement). However this morning I thought I smelt it upstairs. Thanks.

Carrier Natural Gas Furnace main gas valve will not open every call for heat [ 1 Answers ]

We have a Carrier Weather Maker 8000 Natural Gas Furnace not functioning properly. We have replaced pressure switch, hot surface ignitor, flame sensor and control board. It will cycle 3 to 4 times and then not come back on. Is it possibly a bad coil on gas valve?
