    Interior door hits jam
Door will not shut after putting hinges on a new door. Can I cut the hinge in deeper?

How does the door fit without the hinges?
Never seen them recessed beyond flush.

    Hi Tdmc:

Cutting the hinge in deeper is not usually a good idea. Most likely, you will be better to take a plane and shave the door down to fit the frame.

Let us know if this makes sense... OK?

    Hi Tdmc

Hinges should be cut flush with side of door. This will give u the space needed so door will operate correctly and not hit jamb on hinge side.

If the door is not drilled for passage set, u can plan that edge until door fits. Do not plane this edge if holes for passage set are already drilled. Plane edge with a 5 degree pitch with low side of pitch toward the door stop.

If holes are already drilled, mark door where it hits jamb. Transpose this measurement to hinge side. Add 1/8 inch. This will give u the spacing u need for door to fit correctly.

    God luck
