    Water Softener Drain Issues
I would like to install a whole house water softener in our garage (central Texas - so no freezing issues here). The house did not come with a loop and drain for this. The water heater is located in the garage but is on a platform about 3 feet above ground level. I have no problems extending the incoming water pipe to reach the softener but have a question about the drain. I do not have any type of direct drain in the garage. As far as I can tell (without opening the wall), the overflow for the water heater is tied into a sink drain inside the wall (sink is in a bathroom in the house). Question is... can the softener drain be routed above the level of the softener itself? And can I tie into the heater overflow pipe somehow (ex: add a tee and trap)?

All I have in the basement is a sump pit for a water softener. Is there any way to use the sump pit to make the drain line look neat and up to code using an air gap. Any special fittings or ways of piping to do a good job. Thanks

Constant running water noise, old water softener pipes? [ 3 Answers ]

When we bought our house, it came with a decommissioned water softener in the laundry room. The pipes behind it (I'm assuming in and out) were capped off with plastic plugs that toggle back and forth. If you're familiar with Dr. Dolittle, I'd call it a pushmi-pullyu setup. (sorry, I'm an admin, not...

Put a bag of salt in my softener today and it appeared to be way over the brine level. Checked on it a few hours later and still had dry pellets on top. Manually regenerated the system - no fill. Letting it go through its cycle now, but wondering if there's something I'm overlooking. There's...

Drain Line for Water Filter/Softener [ 2 Answers ]

I have recently installed a whole house water filter, water softener, chlorinator and sediment filter. This was all easy plumbing with 1" PVC. My problem is that the filter has a Fleck valve with a 1/2" ID flexible plastic pipe that is used to recycle the filter. It backwashes overnight a few...

I want to install a drain for a water softener in my garage. Ideally, I would like to tie this into a permanent waste pipe to a nearby sink (or shower). I have outlined in the link below my proposed layout. Is there any issues with it? Specifically, will the vent for the existing fixture be...
