Why did you make me work so hard? This should explain things: http://www.transtaracsupply.com/pdf/sv95control.pdf It's the gas valve. See page 5. Note the fans have to be controlled by a t-stat too. I did not look closely on how the "to fan timer" works on the valve.

I have a gas fireplace and on a windy day the pilot light actually went out. My dad said that even though the pilot light isn't on it's emitting gas into the house- which is a health hazard, but I thought that as long as the switch that turns on the light is off there is no risk.
